Michal Rothman Laor

An Israeli painter who lives and works in Tel Aviv. studied at Bruria Hassner’s artist
workshop between 2015-2023. Michal Rotman Laor studied art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem - art, art history
and modern art. At the “Avni Institute of Design and Art” in Tel Aviv, she specialized in painting using
spatula. She also taught a practical course of color techniques.

Rotman Laor is a graduate of Education and Educational Counseling, Family Therapy and team guidance. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from “Levinsky College” and a master's degree in educational counseling from “Beit Berl College”.

Rotman Laor sees herself as an autodidactic and intuitive artist, painted throughout her life and in recent years painting has become her main occupation. For her, painting is an expression and a journey into the soul - an automatic unconscious activity, which arises from within without planning and without obeying any rules and laws.
Using a variety of techniques, she creates lines, spots, texture, and rhythm on the canvas to the point of forming a composition almost by itself. The painting process is created in movement, as a sensory experience with a changing flow and intensity, and through it there is a dialogue between form, color, space, movement, distance and proximity, all while observing and experiencing the craft.

Michal Rotman Laor works have been exhibted in exhibitions in Israel and around the world and have been purchased by various art collection.

Artist Statement

My paintings express inner emotions and feelings, allowing the inner experience to take on different forms and images each time.

In my work, I use canvas, acrylic paints, paper, markers and pencils.

My process involves creating multiple layers of paint and collage. In the layering process, many parts of a painting are covered over and over again, restructured and change form and color until finalized to the point it expresses my fillings and emotions.

Using an abstract and even slightly naïve technique, I create colorful, sensual, and rich paintings characterized by rich brushstrokes and textures and sweeping creative energy, full of love for color.

My paintings invite the viewer to share and experience my creative journey — a journey that tries to arrange the chaos and complexity of modern life along with my personal view of the world.

I have formulated a unique and personal line, abstract but eloquent, that represents the Sisyphean nature of painting along with endless optimism.
